Bornin1925,KihachiroKawamotoisconsideredalivingtreasureinhishomecountryofJapan,withoverthirtyyearsspentcreatingsomeoftheworld'smostsublimeandatmosphericstopmotionanimation.HavingstudiedinPragueunderCzechanimatorJiriTrnka,whoencouragedhimtodrawonhisowncountry'srichculturalheritage,KawamotoreturnedtoJapantomakeaseriesofpainstakinglycraftedmasterpieceswiththeirrootsinJapaneselegendsandthetheatricalformsofKabuki,NohandBunrakutheatre.

The CornerhousecinemainManchesterwillbescreeninganumberofKawamoto'sfilmsfrom5to7April 2008aspartoftheWatershedKawamotoseasonnationaltour.
