Help shape the future of the NanimeW Japanese cinema & music nights

Postby Happosai » Fri Apr 15, 2011 3:55 pm

Greenroom, the venue that has been hosting the monthly NanimeW Japanese cinema & music nghts for the last four years, has announced that it is having to close at the end of May due to losing Arts Council funding. This is sad news for me, as they have hosted numerous interesting events and exhibitions over the years that myself and friends have been involved with.

As a consequence, after the 4 May NanimeW night, we will be without a venue for the NanimeW nights.

I would therefore like to take this opportunity to ask for your input in deciding the future of the nights.

I can try to find a new venue to host the nights (I am already building up a comprehensive list of Manchester venues for another venture of mine), either keeping the format the same as it currently is, or making changes to it (e.g. day, times, programme content, etc.).

Another option is to amalgamate the nights with Ultra-Kitty, as I am already showing films at the start of their nights.

Any comments or feedback (even if you haven't been to any of the NanimeW nights) would be most appreciated.

I think we should definitely do something on 4th May to thank the Greenroom staff for putting up with us for so long.
I wonder whether it's too late for Easter eggs by that point?

I give it some thought, although I'm sure they'll be happy with people saying 'thank'you' and wishing them well in their future endeavours.

I've decided not to find a new venue for the NanimeW nights and instead focus on showing films at the monthly Ultra-Kitty nights at Fab Cafe on the last Monday of each month (more details in the meetings section of the NanimeW website).

Hi. Sorry to hear about the ending of the NanimeW nights at the green room. From the thread i see its a bit late now but Joshua Brooks is a great venue looking to host some film nights over Summer. The basement has a great atmosphere perfect for such nights, with a projector and screen already fitted and a brilliant sound system. With the upstairs bar being a great place to meet and socialise. I'm a manager at the venue and i'm also studying Japanese part time at the University, so such a night would be of particular interest to me. If you know of any future events looking for a venue or if you'd like more info on the venue don't hesistate to contact me.

Thanks for the info, Sarah. I may be looking for a venue to host a Japanese & video game music and cosplay event on Saturday 30 July to coincide with the MCM Expo, but will be looking at places nearer to Manchester Central first. I'll certainly bear it in mind for any events in the future that I'm involved with.
