1964: nine ordinary humans from different parts of the world are abducted and transformed into cyborgs in order to be used as weapons. Then in 2013, skyscrapers across the world are hit by suicide bombers, and the nine gather once more to fight an unknown foe. The cyborgs seem to be untouched by the intervening years, but the world around them has changed dramatically – as has the very idea of justice.

Hana is a 19-year-old student who falls in fairy-tale like love with a wolf man. Over the course of the 13-year story, Hana gives birth to two children – older sister Yuki, and younger brother Ame, or 'Snow' and 'Rain'. At first, the family quietly lives in the city trying to hide their wolf heritage, but when the wolf man suddenly dies, Hana makes the decision to move to a rural town, far from their previous city life.

Katsu, a 60 year-old lumberjack, lives in a small, tranquil village in the mountains. When a film crew suddenly arrives to shoot a zombie movie, Katsu finds himself unwittingly roped into assisting the production and is increasing frustrated by the pushy crew, especially the young, seemingly spineless director Koichi.

However, an improbable friendship soon develops between Katsu and Koichi, as Katsu comes to see joy in the film making process, and gradually helps Koichi to recover his sense of self. Soon, their bond inspires an unusual collaboration between the villagers and the film crew.
